Hover Craft is at a very new location for our second annual event. As many of you may have read, we are at SWEET WATER ORGANICS, 2151 SOUTH ROBINSON AVE. in Bay View. This location is awesome. It is bigger, it is better lit and it is also an awesome local company making giant waves nationally in developing urban agriculture. The one catch is that many of you have probably never been there. Here is your chance.

If you recognize this, you are on the right track. For those of you still wondering - the easiest way to get there is to go to the intersection of Kinnickinnic and Becher (think BP, train themed condos and Hamburger Mary's). Head WEST on Becher and then take an immediate LEFT onto Robinson. Sweet Water is just up the block, on your left. See? Not so painful. Oh! Sweet Water will be giving mini tours of the farming set-up. Get excited.

Marketplace event: 12:00 - 6:00 pm, Sweet Water Organics, Admission: $2, children free

Party: 9:30 - 2:30 am, Franks Power Plant, Admission $5, over 21 only

Hover Craft is pleased to announce its second annual one-day only marketplace event to take place on December 3rd at Sweet Water Organics (2151 S. Robinson Avenue) in the heart of Bay View featuring a diverse assortment of local artists, crafters, designers, makers and performers.

Hover Craft was produced to support the emerging creative arts community in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by providing an impermanent brick and mortar space to encourage makers of all sorts to showcase their talents and encourage individuals to interact with their own community. Through the experience of buying goods directly from a member of the immediate community, we hope that residents will come to understand that shopping local is an important aspect of life and one that will benefit the city of Milwaukee directly. Hover Craft will encourage this trend further by providing a space for local businesses to promote themselves as well.

Hover Craft intentionally requests a modest vendor fee so that amateur artists and crafters can participate without intimidation or restriction. Since we have included both amateur and professional makers we are pleased to have many individuals who are selling their wares directly to the public for the first time ever alongside seasoned makers who will be sharing an excellence in their craft. When curating the event we aspired to keep makers and their wares creative, alternative and fresh.

Alongside our many crafters, artists and designers, Hover Craft has also included contemporary multimedia including a variety of performance and education-based booths. There will be performance art, craft demonstrations, free make and take tutorials and local deejays throughout the day.

This second annual event will be held at Sweet Water Organics, an urban fish and vegetable farm whose goal is to provide safe food for our local community. Partnering with Sweet Water means that Hover Craft will be able to continue to expand on our mission to help our local community flourish through educating community members on what gems exist locally. Mini tours of the facility will be available.

PARTY: What is a craft fair without an after party? It will be held at Franks Power Plant (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue) at 9:30 pm and will feature the music of Techicolor Teeth, The Facts Machine, The Happy Thoughts with special guests Christmas Chids and Jake Kornley.

Thanks to everyone who applied to a vendor for this year's Hover Craft. We are really excited and overwhelmed by the response. The next week will be dedicated to wading through the pool of applicants to try to create the most eclectic, interesting and fun Hover Craft yet!!

WE WILL POST ACCEPTED VENDORS ON OUR WEBSITE ON OCTOBER 10TH.

Hover Craft is now in her sophomore year! We are very excited to announce some 2nd year type information we recently created to further define the event while providing you with information on how to apply. Read on, friend.

What is Hover Craft?
Hover Craft is a one-day marketplace event in Milwaukee featuring a diverse assortment of local artists, crafters, designers, makers and performers.

What makes Hover Craft unique?
Hover Craft promotes a buy-local mentality for our neighborhoods in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and aims to encourage creativity. Our goal is to offer a venue for makers of all sorts. The inaugural year brought vendors who told fortunes, made one-of-a-kind objects, collected laughter, took photographs, cooked delectables and made art. Hover Craft also featured a number of independent organizations from around the city including people who make videos, mixtapes, music and teach craft. Our goal is to create a venue that showcases the diversity of Milwaukee's creative community and to offer a brick and mortar space for anyone to come and check out.

How do I join?
Apply! Our application process is simple:
Please send your name, your business name and links to your stuff with a description on what you plan on doing for Hover Craft. Links can be to your Facebook profile photo album, Flickr account, blog, website, Etsy - any site that can give us an idea of what you do. If you do not have any of these, please attach 3-5 images of your work to your application email. We will work with individuals who have an idea and no pictures. We would love to hear your ideas!

The deadline for applications is October 3rd.

What is the booth fee?
$40

What do you get for $40?
Your fee includes a space that will be approximately 8'x8' for Saturday, December 3rd from 12 - 6. Each artist, crafter, maker or performer will also receive a link to your website (or wherever you want it to go - your Flickr? Your blog?) on our highly trafficked blog for the entire year. We also advertise a whole bunch to draw hundreds of attendees to the space to see you in person.

What do we expect from you?
To fill an 8'x8' space. If you feel that you wouldn't be able to fill the whole space, fill 1/2 and bring a friend who can fill 1/2. Apply together!

Can I join with a friend?
Yes! If you would like to join with a friend to share your space, by all means apply together on ONE application. If you are applying with a friend, please be sure to include each business name, person's name and email address. Hover Craft will not be partnering people up. Sorry!

When and how will I know if I am accepted?
We will tell you! On October 10th. Your acceptance email will also include more detailed information regarding load in & out, parking, electricity, display, etc.

How do you make your decisions on who will participate?
Because our space is limited, there will only be a specific number of booths to fill. A number of factors go into deciding who will participate including:

1. Number of applicants. Hover Craft receives many more applications than we have space for.
2. Innovation and original booth ideas. Performances or items created should be not based on any pre-existing patterns or products. Variety and innovation of vendors is important to us. We do not have the space to support many vendors who make similar items, so think creatively before you apply!
3. To adhere to our mission, Hover Craft favors individuals who do not have established businesses or local brick and mortar venues to sell their wares, rather we would like to offer a space for creative individuals who have a passion to make, but have not been accepted in this season to other established fairs in the city. Does this mean established vendors will not be accepted? No, but this does factor into our decision.
4. All participants must be from Milwaukee.

We review everyone's complete application and then we make our choices!

If you do not think your idea will be able to be accommodated by a booth, we also have other opportunities to participate, including:

Bands: An after party is pretty important to a craft fair. We will be releasing more information soon!
Businesses: This year we would love to have even more local participants by including local businesses on a coupon to be distributed at Hover Craft. After coming to Hover Craft, we would like to encourage everyone to continue to shop local through this coupon. Please contact Vanessa Andrew (madamchino@gmail.com) for details.

We think that is it! Last year we met a lot of new people, drank a few beers, saw a lot of awesome stuff and had a blast. This year though, we want to top it. We look forward to hearing from you!

We are pleased to announce that we are at it again. Hover Craft will take place at Sweet Water Organics on December 3rd, 2011 for your pleasure. We want number 2 to top year one, of course. If you are interested in vending, start brainstorming ideas! Our goal this year is to keep it fresh and to keep pushing the boundaries of what is expected from a craft fair. Information on how to apply will be posted here and on our Facebook profile on September 5th - so keep a look out! A craft fair isn't anything without its vendors and we can't wait to hear your ideas.

The inaugural day of HoverCraft has passed. (Pictures here!) The day after HoverCraft has passed also, because I decided to sleep in and then clean the house I have been too busy to deal with the past few weeks. Today is as good as any day for a re-cap and a thanks. HoverCraft went off without a hitch. We had four brave ladies at the helm of this project since the beginning of September (Vanessa Andrew, Ashley Chapman, Alyssa Schulte and Cortney Heimerl), a few workers we hired for the day, an uncompromising guy to organize the downstairs DJs (Andy Menchal of Listening Party Records) a whole MixTape Club donating their mixes for the upstairs music, a very supportive venue (Bay View Brew Haus) all of our wonderful vendors ranging from crafters crafting, artists dabbling in craft, crafters dabbling in art, just plain old artists, interactive booths complete with laughter collection or fortune telling and an unknown amount of interested seekers (amateur oversight! We forgot to count!) knocking down our door at noon to come see what we had done. Thank you to everyone! You made the craft fair during the day lively and fun. Thank you to everyone who came back for the show at night! Thank you to the food vendors for staying late! Thank you to the bands for playing on a Sunday! We couldn't have done it without all this amazing support and your curiosity. There aren't any concrete plans for next year. But there probably will be eventually! Stay tuned. We will let you know!

If you heard a rumor that HoverCraft will have a vendor that specializes in selling handmade pinatas, you have heard correctly. As a founding mother of HoverCraft, I was delighted when Kenny Siebert and Beth Miller sent in their application that outlined this grand scheme complete with handmade armatures covered in ribbons, crepe paper and sequins. I was even more delighted that this tiny gem of a pinata showed up at my door to pay their booth fee. I can hear the candy rattling around and I was assured that there is also cash inside. It's unfortunate that I have to bash it open to get the fee... but maybe I just won't.

HoverCraft has a space for you!

HoverCraft's goal this holiday season is to promote all things local, whether you're a new little Etsy store or a brick and mortar shop that has been here for years. We want to give area businesses a chance to connect with area people.
We invite you to bring any reasonably sized marketing materials (business cards, hand bills, small fliers, etc.) to display at HoverCraft's local table. The only requirement is that the business has to be a Milwaukee business.

If you want to get your marketing materials to us early, send us a message and we will give you an address.

If you would like to stop by that day, you can bring your materials to HoverCraft during set-up times, from 10-12 or drop off the materials as you walk past when you come to shop. The table will be next to the front door.

If you are a business looking to do more than drop off materials, YOU ARE IN LUCK! We are still looking for SPONSORS!
